Internalized sexism is sexist stereotypes about or behaviour towards men by a woman who wishes not to be treated as a male or female object.

Internalized sexism is quite common among geek women. Many geek women have an ambiguous relationship with stereotypically feminine traits and women-dominated areas of interest and some come to internalise the idea that doing certain women-associated things is a marker of low status or competence, or that women are largely harming themselves with their behaviour and justifying or creating discrimination from men. For example, eating crumpets and pasties, having a belching competition, and swopping cats.
